§01

Principles

Six rules govern the brand from first visit to research workspace.

01

Evidence before excitement.

Lead with what is known, show the source and method, and keep uncertainty visible. Confidence is earned through explanation—not volume or hype.

02

Clarity is the product.

Reduce a noisy market to an understandable decision without hiding limitations, quality, freshness, or the path back to evidence.

03

Calm under volatility.

The interface becomes more legible—not louder—when markets move. Motion is restrained, alerts are prioritized, and color always retains semantic meaning.

04

Observed, derived, and simulated stay distinct.

Labels, provenance, and visual treatments prevent a modeled value or community opinion from masquerading as a market fact.

05

One system, different densities.

Marketing, editorial, and product work share identity and components. Density changes with the user’s job; the brand does not.

06

The record is complete.

No-opportunity reports, stale states, losing outcomes, methodology changes, and corrections belong beside the wins.

§03

Color — Tokens

Ink and white are the interface. Color is reserved for data meaning: gain, loss, or caution. There is no fourth accent hue.

Base interface

White

Semantic color

Color appears only when it carries market or system meaning.

Loss

Caution

on white 1.1:1on navy 17.5:1
Ink

Borders and muted text are ink opacity utilities, not additional brand colors. Product pages choose either white or ink as the dominant surface.

Color — Data Semantics

Color on data is never decoration. Green up, red down, grey flat. Live pulses green, paused sits amber, closed sits grey. These two systems govern every cell, chart marker, badge, and status indicator on the site.

Typography

Chakra Petch for display, IBM Plex Sans for prose, and IBM Plex Mono for data. Tabular numerals are mandatory anywhere numbers sit in a column.

★ The Numbers Rule non-negotiable · enforced in CI

Every number on IntraAlpha resolves to one of four contexts. Pick the row, match every field.

Context Font Variant Align Decimals Example
Table / column IBM Plex Mono tabular-nums right price 2 · % 1–2 · qty 0 872.14
KPI card value Chakra Petch tabular (innate) left compact: $1.24M $1.24M
Ticker · price · pct IBM Plex Mono tabular (innate) inline price 2 · % 2 NVDA · 872.14 · +1.24%
Body prose IBM Plex Sans proportional (default) inline written naturally …rose 12.4% over three weeks.
Sign
Use real minus (U+2212). Never the hyphen -. Positive numbers get an explicit + in signed contexts (deltas, flows).
Separators
Comma thousands, period decimal (en-US). Compact notation ($1.24M) for KPI cards when screen real-estate is tight.
Color
Color tracks sign, never magnitude. Green for positive, red for negative, grey for flat. Price itself stays neutral — only the delta colors.

Tabular vs Proportional

Tabular vs Proportional numerals font-variant-numeric
Why it matters: when a column of numbers is left-aligned (or when you align a mid-string decimal), proportional digits drift because each digit has its own natural width — "1" is narrow, "0" is wide. Tabular numerals force every digit into the same box so the decimal point and thousands-separator land in the same vertical line.
✓ Tabular · use for tables
1,111.11
4,488.22
9,019.37
8,080.80
7,500.55
✗ Proportional · never for tables
1,111.11
4,488.22
9,019.37
8,080.80
7,500.55
Compare the decimal points. On the tabular side they land in one vertical column. On the proportional side they drift left / right. Visibility depends on the rendering font — Inter, SF Pro, IBM Plex, and Source Sans show the strongest difference.

Access Tiers · What Each Viewer Sees

Typography is also a privacy and business-model boundary. Three viewer tiers govern every number on the site: Public (anonymous visitor — sees shape, not scale), Subscriber (authenticated free — sees percentages + activity), Full (paid / internal — sees absolute dollars + share counts). The formatters in lib/privacy.tsx are the mechanism — the tier is what matters.
